This is an Air National Guard Title 32 excepted service position. This National Guard position is for an Airplane Flight Instructor (Title 32), Air Position Description Number NGD2045P01 and is part of the TN 118th Wing, Air National Guard. This vacancy is not eligible for membership to a labor organization. Responsibilities include administering combat flight training to military aircrews, instructing and evaluating pilots through a broad training spectrum, performing pilot duties, and assessing instructors, pilots, sensor operators, and mission coordinators. The incumbent maintains a thorough knowledge of airplane systems and procedures under normal, instrument, and emergency conditions. They serve as the Air Operations Officer's representative and are responsible for the safe and efficient mission accomplishment through the use of Operational Risk Management. The position may perform work in any of the following Air Operations program support functional areas: Standardization/Evaluation, Weapons and Tactics, Training, Scheduling, Plans, Safety, Inspector General. Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements include military grades O-1 through O-5, compatible AFSC 11U3B/18A3B, general experience with a competent understanding of the occupation's basic principles and concepts, and a minimum of one-year on-the-job experience in the grade immediately below the next higher level. Specialized experience includes at least two years working experiences in civilian aviation programs, military service aviation programs, Army National Guard Aviation Support facility, or Air National Guard Wing/Operations Group. The candidate must be experienced in piloting and instructing pilot skills in one or more of the following main-frame/military aircraft: fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft (RPA). They must also be experienced in reading and applying mission tasks, intelligence reports, and weather information, supervising and/or conducting mission planning, mission preparations, filing of flight plans, and conducting crew briefings. Experience in aircraft preflight inspections, aircraft loading, equipment assessments, and mission manning is required. The candidate must be experienced in operating aircraft controls and equipment, performing or supervising the work procedures involved in navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue operations, surveillance, or reconnaissance, conducting or supervising crew member training on simple to complex mission specific tasks, developing plans and policies, monitoring operations, and advising commanders. Experience in flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, aircraft operating procedures, and mission tactics is required. The candidate must also be experienced in planning and preparing for missions, and must have at least two years experiences in piloting or instructing others in piloting specific air-frame/military aircraft. Experience in various piloting administrative tasks performed in support of Air National Guard aviation programs is required. The candidate must be experienced in aviation unit quality control management programs, unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs in accordance with Department of the Air Force, National Guard Bureau, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration directives. Experience in applying directives, regulations, accident reports, safety data, and local operating conditions to determine unit safety program requirements is required. The candidate must also be experienced in flying operations and coordinating with appropriate agencies to ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations and programs. Experience in one or more missions such as air-to-air; air-to-ground; mortar-to-arm escort; surveillance; reconnaissance; surface attack; killer-scout; target illumination; or laser targeting is required. Experience in traditional "stick and rudder" type controls for piloting aircraft direction, altitude, and speed is required. The candidate must be experienced in using aircraft instrumentation and aircraft mounted video cameras, visual flight-rule type flying and aircraft instrument flying, flying simulated "real world" combat and non-combat missions and terrain, planning, scheduling, and conducting training flights through Federal Aviation Administration controlled national airspace, applying operational directives, training directives, instructions, standard operating procedures, and special instructions of National Guard Bureau, United States Army or United States Air Force, and gaining commands. Experience in working independently to plan and perform work assignments is required, and the candidate must be experienced in completing safe and efficient mission accomplishments through the use of Operational Risk Management. Experience performing aviation duties such as cancelling flying activities, diverting aircraft, dictating mission requirements, approving specific activities, coordinating for airport or airspace utilization with FAA, or directing emergency actions that involved unit support agencies is required. The candidate must be experienced in using applicable Army aviation regulations, policies, requirements and standards, skills and practices; and, the application of instructional techniques to the training of other pilots in the Army National Guard flying facilities. Experience conducting particular missions and flying specific main-frame aircraft in combat tactics, flying in mountainous terrain, performing tactical remote site evaluations, performing landings on remote sites, providing ground and flight training, and conducting night-vision operations or instructions is required. Experience in standardization and evaluation programs, written ground examinations, emergency procedures, and aircrew performance standards in accordance with applicable directives and Federal Aviation Administration certification requirements is required. The candidate must be experienced in reviewing and complying with applicable service flight publications and directives for accuracy and currency. Experience on weaponry and combat or non-combat tactics for applicable military aircraft is required. The candidate must be experienced with wartime and peacetime contingency plans and supplements used for unit mobilizations, deployments, strange field operations, or troop missions and re-deployments.
Education requirement includes FAA Certification or equivalent (1059) Army An undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university is mandatory. Must have Federal Aviation Administration certifications awarded from accredited civilian aviation programs. OR must have aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools. You must provide transcripts or other documentation to support your Educational claims. To receive credit for Education, you must provide documentation of proof that you meet the Education requirements for this position.
